Placing the foundation

Chiropractic and Physical Therapy can be compared to constructing a house. Parts of the process have to occur in a certain order so that everything works correctly as a whole. If you were building a house, you wouldn’t put up walls before making sure the foundation was secure; the walls would cave in without the proper support. Likewise, placing a roof on unsteady walls would make the whole structure collapse. The same principle holds true for the body. In order to heal completely and correctly, your body must go through a particular set of steps that you and your care provider agree on. These are the three phases of chiropractic and physical therapy.

Phase 1: Relief care / Initial Intensive Care

Our main objective is to help you feel better, especially if you are in pain when you first arrive at our office. Most patients need treatment 2-3 times each week for a period of a month to 6 weeks to achieve relief, although this depends on how severe the initial problem is.

Phase 2: Strengthening/ Corrective Care

This phase involves letting muscles and other tissues heal in order to prevent further injury from happening. Muscles surrounding the treatment area must be strengthened in order to reduce the risk of injury. We work with patients to achieve a higher degree of fitness than there was before the condition developed, training muscles and ligaments so that you can function fully. This phase usually requires 8-10 treatments each month for a period of 2-3 months. The number of treatments you need will depend on how severe the initial problem was and take your overall health into account.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

After you have fully recovered, it is still vital to return for periodic treatments such as adjustments and massages as a form of preventive care. Generally, patients will return 1-4 times per month depending on their wellness goals and lifestyle.
